Hi, I’m Jim Faulkner, and if you’ve read the first two parts of my story you’ll be acquainted with where I’ve come from, but not so sure where I’m going.
In Part One of my adventures I explained how as a 17-year-old I left my native Glasgow to join the British Army. In Part Two, I took you with me as I joined my first working unit in the south of England. After a few months the regiment moved to Dortmund.
While in Germany I faced and dealt with an abundance of trials and tribulations.
Our regiment was tasked with an Op Banner tour and in 1973 following extensive training we hit the streets of Belfast, Northern Ireland, in the role of infantry soldiers.
My soldiering and ability at trade were not in question, but my social life caused me to lose my first chance of promotion. I left Dortmund under a cloud. In one movement: I left a life which would be my undoing, performed a favour for one of my superiors, and gave myself another chance by accepting two years in Northern Ireland - in a different role.
There is no requirement for the reader to have been in the Armed Forces, although it might be beneficial to have read the earlier parts of my tale.
It is a human story – a coming-of-age ... A Life of Choice.
